From Here Or Somewhere Else – Concert And Album Launch With Blue And Sentimental And The String Contingent
Sydney guitar and accordion duo Blue and Sentimental join chamber-folk super group The String Contingent in “From Here or Somewhere Else” – an exotic double bill of ‘chamber-folk, gypsy, tango and classical fusion’. Part of the popular Prelude in Tea series of concerts, the concert will also include the theatre’s legendary afternoon tea with a selection of delectable cakes and refreshments.
Blue and Sentimental is an Australian jazz duo from Sydney featuring Emily-Rose Sarkova (Accordion & vocals) and Luke Chapman (Guitar). Inspired by a mutual love of ‘gypsy jazz’, folk, tango, fusion, classical and all the in-betweens, their music is alive with the new sounds of originals as well as sentimental salutes to the old classics in jazz.
Acoustic chamber-folk trio The String Contingent has a unique sound that confidently embraces folk, classical, jazz, and bluegrass. In 2018, Australians Chris Stone (violin) and Holly Downes (double bass) with Scotsman Graham McLeod (guitar) took a road less travelled along the Savannah Way from Cairns (Qld) to Broome (WA) to deepen their experience of Australia and form the basis of their sixth album, From Here or Somewhere Else. The album captures some of the landscape, isolation, history, beauty and peacefulness of the places they visited, along with musical ideas that were coloured by the trip.
Chris and Holly will be launching the album at the Independent Theatre as part of their Australia-wide launch tour. They will be joined by special guest cellist Rachel Johnston, who was a member of the Australian String Quartet for seven years and has become one of Australia’s best-known and most versatile cellists.
