‘Greetings from the ancient to the new’ – the NCPA orchestra visits from China
As the Sydney Symphony has been touring China, for the first time ever, China’s National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) Orchestra will visit Australia to perform one concert only at the Sydney Opera House.
The orchestra of 90 musicians was established in March 2012, and serves as the orchestra in residence of the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. It performs in the NCPA’s programme of opera and ballet as well as presenting its own concert season.
The players in the orchestra are gathered from around China and other countries, and most have furthered their skills with work r study in Europe or North America. Maestro Lorin Maazel has mentored them orchestra, describing them as “an excellent, hard-working orchestra with great passion.”
The orchestra is fresh from its European debut at the Kissinger Sommer Festival in Bad Kissinger, Germany and brings to its Sydney premiere, a collection of orchestral classics, performed under the baton of its Artistic Director of Music, Maestro Zuohuang Chen.
Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy, features violinist Mr. Feng Ning, the first prize winner of the Paganini Competition in 2006. This will be followed by Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” which the orchestra considers ‘a sincere greeting from an ancient civilization to the new continent.’
