Handa Opera On Sydney Harbour: Turandot Sneak Peak
Opera Australia has unveiled the spectacular stage for this year’s Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour production of Puccini’s Turandot, with two huge feature pieces dominating the over-water stage.
With set and costumes designed by Dan Potra and directed by Chen Shi-Zheng, the set will feature a giant 9m high and 60m long dragon incorporating images of the Great Wall of China and an 18m high illuminated pagoda towering over the stage, setting the scene for this spectacular production of Turandot.
Riccardo Massi shares the role of Calaf with Arnold Rawls, with Dragana Radakovic and Daria Masiero as Turandot, Hyeseoung Kwon and Eva Kong as Liu, Conal Coad as Timur, John Longmuir, Benjamin Rasheed and Luke Gabbedy as Pong, Pang and Ping, David Lewis as Emperor, Gennadi Dubinsky as Mandarin and Jin Tea Kim and Dean Bassett sharing the role of Prince of Persia.
Brian Castles-Onion will conduct the Opera Australia Chorus and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.
Turandot on Sydney Harbour opens on March 24th and runs till April 24th 2016.
