Highlights from the Olympics Proms include tenor Stuart Skelton singing’Grimes’
London is the only city in the world which can offer its visitors the chance to simultaneously attend two of the world’s largest festivals that pair sport and music – the Olympics and the BBC Proms.
The Proms opens on July 13th and runs till September 8th; the Olympic Games open on July 27th and end on August 12th.
During its weeks of concerts, audiences can hear the best of all kinds of everything that Western music has to offer from the traditional to the modern, from composers and performers, both established and emerging. Based at the Royal Albert Hall, concerts are also held in nearby locations like the Cadogan Hall as well as outdoors.
For Australian opera fans who find themselves in London in late August (Friday 24th) may be able to catch tenor Stuart Skelton as Peter Grimes in the English National Opera’s production for The Proms.
Olympic touches include participating conductors ‘passing the baton’ on opening night and a special commission by Eric Whitacre based on the words of the Olympic motto “Higher, Faster, Stronger”.
