IFAC Australian Singing Competition Finalists announced

Five singers have progressed to the finals of the IFAC Australian Singing Competition later this month.

Mezzo-soprano Jade Moffat 23, from Queensland, sopranos Hannah Dahlenburg 25, from Victoria and Danita Weatherstone 23, from New South Wales, baritones Edward Laurenson 24, from New Zealand and Alexander Knight from New South Wales, are all in contention. They will perform for an adjudication panel which will include national adjudicator Emma Matthews and revered figures from the music professions, amongst them Peter Czornyj from the Sydney Symphony, Michael Halliwell from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and Ian McCahon from Opera Australia.

On September 12th, the five finalists attend a MasterClass with Emma Matthews & David Harper. After this, they have two weeks to prepare for the finals at which over $170,000 in prizes will be awarded. The prizes include opportunities for further study in Australia and overseas, recording and performance engagements and the prestigious ‘Mathy Award’ valued at over $30,000.

In the finals, the young singers will perform with the Australian Opera & Ballet Orchestra conducted by Anthony Legge and compered by Emma Ayres. Soprano Lorina Gore is guest artist.
