IFAC Australian Singing Competition – Important Dates 2016
Entries are now open for the 2016 IFAC Australian Singing Competition.
The IFAC ASC is Australasia’s richest and most prestigious competition for young opera and classical singers. This year entrants compete for almost $200,000 in career-building awards and opportunities including the coveted Marianne Mathy Scholarship (‘The Mathy’).
Entrants will also have the opportunity to work with the 2016 National Adjudicator, celebrated baritone and Artistic Director of Opera, Australia Lyndon Terracini AM.
Many competitors and winners have progressed to glittering careers in opera. Past winners include counter-tenor Maximilian Reibl (2015), Anna Dowsley (2013), Jessica Pratt (2003), Rachelle Durkin (2000) and Stuart Skelton (1991).
Ten singers will compete in the semi-finals to be held at the Independent Theatre in North Sydney on July 3. Five finalists will sing in the Gala Finals Concert on August 18 at the Concert Hall, The Concourse Chatswood, with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra (AOBO).
Heats will be held in Sydney, Perth and Melbourne as well as overseas in London and Auckland.
Entrants must be under 26 years of age (as at 23 June 2016). Entries close Friday March 11. Late entries close Tuesday March 15.
