In Search Of Chopin
Filmmaker Phil Grabsky (In Search of Mozart, Beethoven and Haydn, Exhibition on Screen series) continues his In Search of series bringing to cinema screens the life and music of Fryderyk Chopin (1810-1849).
In Search of Chopin opens on August 21 in selected cinemas nationally.
Chopin’s grave at the Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris remains a place of pilgrimage and his music continues to captivate performers and audiences. The film explores the man who was terrified of public performances, who fled his Polish homeland for Paris never to return, took up with the most notorious transvestite in France, George Sand and rarely gave public performances. Despite a life of ill-health, Chopin wrote some of the most poignant and passionate music ever heard.
Four years in the making, Grabsky talked to musical historian Jeremy Siepmann to put together this biography which features performances by Leif Ove Andsnes, Lars Vogt, Daniel Barenboim, Ronald Brautigam and Kevin Kenner.
In Search of Chopin is narrated by Olivier Award winning star of stage and screen, Juliet Stevenson (Truly Madly Deeply, Bend It Like Beckham) and David Dawson (Luther, The Thick of It) is the voice of Chopin reading his letters out aloud.
