Image by David Bacher.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>As this post goes live, mezzo -soprano Louise Callinan would have just come off stage after opening night\u00a0at the Paris Opera,\u00a0where she is singing the role of Mercedes\u00a0in Bizet&#8217;s <em>Carmen<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Paris based photographer David Bacher&#8217;s images from the final rehearsals give an intimate view of preparations for this new production by Yves Beaunesne, conducted by Philippe Jordan.<\/p>\n<p>Louise Callinan\u00a0has established herself in Europe\u00a0over the last decade or so, being the first Australian to be accepted into the Young Artist Program at the Op\u00e9ra National de\u00a0 Paris. The graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music\u00a0began her career with roles such as Angelina in <em>La Cenerentola <\/em>and\u00a0Rosina in <em>Il barbiere di Siviglia. <\/em>She is now based in Paris where her career has blossomed, winning the prestigious AROP prize of Op\u00e9ra National de Paris and singing roles which have included\u00a0Meg Page in<em> Falstaff<\/em>\u00a0,\u00a0and the 2nd lady in\u00a0<em>The Magic Flute<\/em>, which she also performed in the film version directed by Kenneth Branagh.<\/p>\n<p>Louise has moved into the dramatic <em>mezzo-soprano <\/em>repertoire and has recently performed Dalila in <em>Samson et Dalila<\/em> in Valladolid, and Wagnerian roles like Erda and Waltraute.
