The\u00a0former Berlin Philharmonic oboist Hansj\u00f6rg Schellenberger directs this program which showcases performers from\u00a0the Sydney Symphony\u00a0performing music\u00a0written by two of the greatest composers for wind instruments WA Mozart and P Hindemith.<\/p>\n

Hindemith’s Concerto for Winds, Harp and Orchestra was written in\u00a01949. It’s a modern concerto grosso, scored for\u00a0flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon with an orchestra of strings and brass. The\u00a0clarinet plays Mendelssohn\u2019s \u2018Wedding March\u2019 in the final movement. rising above the surrounding polyphony.<\/p>\n

Mozart’s Gran Partita<\/em> is a serenade in 7 movements\u00a0for 13 instruments (twelve winds and string bass), giving it the alternative title of\u00a0The Serenade No. 10 for winds in B flat major,\u00a0K 361\/370a.<\/em> The piece was probably composed in 1781 or 1782 and uses a variety of musical forms within its 7 movement structure.<\/p>\n
