Schubert\u2019s String Quintet in C D 956<\/em>, a masterpiece composed in the final two weeks of the composer\u2019s life, headlines this enticing concert.\u00a0This Quintet\u00a0is famed for its unconventional instrumentation, which includes the rare use of two cellos.\u00a0For this, the Australian String Quartet share the stage with virtuoso cellist, Timo-Veikko Valve, integral member of the Australian Chamber Orchestra and a sought-after soloist in his own right.<\/p>\n

The concert opens with Haydn\u2019s String Quartet\u00a0Op.64\u00a0No.5<\/em>\u00a0the \u201cLark\u201d.\u00a0<\/em>Just as the lark\u2019s song heralds the European spring, so this Quartet evokes the season\u2019s fragrant freshness.\u00a0Then to B\u00e9la Bart\u00f3k\u2019s String Quartet No 3<\/em>, intense and untamed diving headlong into mysterious depths, with its folk influences, percussive gestures and wild glissandi.<\/p>\n
