Soprano Jane Sheldon & Acacia Quartet are\u00a0to give the first Sydney performances from their North + South<\/em> CD,\u00a0alongside\u00a0music by Elena Kats-Chernin and Lyle Chan.<\/p>\n Now based in the\u00a0US, the Australian soprano\u00a0has forged a strong\u00a0international career. Her latest\u00a0recording,\u00a0North<\/em> + <\/strong>South<\/em>,\u00a0\u00a0is a contemporary take on ten traditional folk songs, drawing on \u2018traditional\u2019 styles. For the Sydney concert,\u00a0Jane and\u00a0the\u00a0Acacia Quartet recreate their performance on the recording which was made and launched at\u00a0Arthur Boyd’s residence, Bundanon, in 2012.<\/p>\n The songs on North + South\u00a0derive<\/em> from Australia, the United States, and the British Isles. It features arrangements by Britten, Berio, and Australian composers Andrew Ford, Martin Wesley-Smith, and Ann Carr-Boyd. Jane has also arranged some of the songs herself, including\u00a0The Go-Between\u2019s\u00a01983 hit\u00a0Cattle and Cane<\/em>, which was declared by APRA one of the Top 30 Australian songs of all time. The collection includes\u00a0favourites like The Dying Stockman\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0She Moved Through the Fair<\/em>, amongst some\u00a0lesser-known gems.<\/p>\n
