In her first studio album for five years, Russian soprano Anna Netrebko celebrates the Verdi bicentenary\u00a0and the dramatic power of his music with a new recording on the Deutsche Grammophon label, available from August 9th.\u00a0\u00a0Anna Netrebko \u2013 Verdi<\/i> \u00a0is a compilation of arias selected by Netrebko herself. They include some rarely heard works from major roles that the soprano has added to her repertoire. Comprising 12 tracks, the recording has just under 1 hour of music.<\/p>\n
Netrebko\u2019s consummate\u00a0artistry and persona both on and offstage have endeared her to audiences and critics around the world. Her records have sold over 3.8\u00a0million copies, more than any other soprano so far this century.<\/p>\n
In\u00a0this album,\u00a0Netrebko explores five of Verdi\u2019s most complex characters. Beginning with excerpts from Macbeth<\/i>, which include Lady Macbeth\u2019s sleepwalking scene, she traces the turbulent journeys of Giovanna d\u2019Arco, Elena from I\u00a0Vespri Siciliani<\/i>, Elisabetta from Don Carlo<\/i> and on to Leonora from Il trovatore<\/i>\u00a0in which she is joined by\u00a0tenor Rolando Villaz\u00f3n as Manrico.<\/p>\n
The release is a timely one for Netrebko as she performs Giovanna d\u2019Arco<\/i> during the Salzburg Festival in August, appearing with Pl\u00e1cido Domingo at the Felsenreitschule. During 2013\/14 she will sing in Philipp St\u00f6lzl\u2019s new production of Il trovatore<\/i> for the Berlin Staatsoper, conducted by Daniel Barenboim in\u00a0November\/ December, and will make <\/b>her role debut as Lady Macbeth with the Bavarian State Opera <\/b>in Martin Ku\u0161ej\u2019s <\/b>staging <\/b>of Macbeth<\/i> at next year\u2019s Munich Opera Festival in June\/July.<\/p>\n
Performing with her on the recording are the \u00a0Chorus and Orchestra of the Teatro Regio Torino under their Music Director, Gianandrea Noseda who first met Netrebko during his time at the Mariinsky Theatre and conducted her Deutsche Grammophon debut album. \u201cRecording this album has been a wonderful journey, full of discoveries,\u201d says Netrebko. “Together with Gianandrea and the fantastic orchestra, our goal is to do justice to Verdi\u2019s beautiful creations.\u201d<\/p>\n
