With a reputation for virtuosity and fearless innovation, this string quartet pushed the boundaries with\u00a0The Washington Post\u00a0saying \u00a0&#8220;The string quartet may be a 250-year-old contraption, but young, brilliant groups like the JACK Quartet are keeping it thrillingly vital.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Making its Australian debut at Carriageworks, JACK Quartet has performed\u00a0at Carnegie Hall, the Wigmore Hall,\u00a0the\u00a0Lucerne Festival, Paris&#8217; Salle Pleyel\u00a0and the Venice Biennale.<\/p>\n<p>Violinists Christopher Otto and Ari Streisfeld, violist John Pickford Richards, and cellist Kevin McFarland met as undergraduates at the Eastman School of Music. They&#8217;ve studied with\u00a0the Arditti Quartet, Kronos Quartet, Muir String Quartet, and members of the Ensemble Intercontemporain and worked with significant composers of the 20th and 21st centuries, amongst them\u00a0Brian Ferneyhough, Beat Furrer, Georg Friedrich Haas, Vijay Iyer, Gy\u00f6rgy Kurt\u00e1g, Helmut Lachenmann,\u00a0and Steve Reich,<\/p>\n<p>On Friday 16 August, JACK will perform an interpretation of G. F. Haas\u2019s\u00a0<em>String Quartet No. 3 \u2018In iij. Noct\u2019<\/em> performed in total darkness.
