<\/p>\nThe Goldner Quartet, is presenting a\u00a0concert that will take listeners on a journey to seven\u00a0different countries in just 80 minutes. To set the scene for the music, food and wine\u00a0from each country will be\u00a0served in the foyer from 6 pm prior to the performance at 7pm.<\/p>\n
This project involve the Goldner String Quartet performing in all six of Sydney\u2019s Sister Cities: Portsmouth in\u00a0England, Wellington in New Zealand, Guangzhou in China, Florence in Italy, San Francisco in the USA and Nagoya in Japan.<\/p>\n

The programme for each sister city is individually tailored to that city and includes a work by a composer significant to\u00a0that country, or a collaboration with a locally based performer. In return, all the concerts feature at least one Australian\u00a0composition.<\/p>\n
The idea of sister cities began after World War II. In the words of the Sydney City Council, the\u00a0objective of a sister city relationship is \u201c\u2026to develop economic, trade, cultural, educational and other beneficial\u00a0exchanges\u2026and to perpetuate an understanding between people and cultures\u201d.<\/p>\n
Comprising violinists Dene Olding and Dimity Hall, violist Irina Morozova and cellist Julian Smiles, the Goldner Quartet sees music as an\u00a0international language that cuts across all barriers and as\u00a0one of the best ways to foster and celebrate these ideals.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The concert in Sydney on March 18 is the third concert in the project, and will feature the Australian premiere of a\u00a0quartet by New Zealand composer Gareth Farr, which was especially commissioned for this project.<\/p>\n
