{"id":17078,"date":"2014-08-28T18:31:55","date_gmt":"2014-08-28T08:31:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/soundslikesydney.com.au\/?p=17078"},"modified":"2014-08-28T18:31:55","modified_gmt":"2014-08-28T08:31:55","slug":"the-australian-brandenburg-orchestra-2015-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/soundslikesydney.com.au\/?p=17078","title":{"rendered":"The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra 2015 Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-17081\" alt=\"2015-abo-strip-media-kit-with-type\" src=\"https:\/\/soundslikesydney.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/2015-abo-strip-media-kit-with-type-325x166.gif\" width=\"325\" height=\"166\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra has revealed its line up for 2015 &#8211; a six programme series that sweeps the baroque and early classical repertoire and which includes music by Handel, Vivaldi, the Bachs and Mozart, performed by soloists from Australia and overseas.<\/p>\n<p>Moving on from its 25th year in 2014, Artistic Director of the ABO, Paul Dyer AO, \u00a0is bringing back in September 2015, dazzling fortepianist and guest director Kristian Bezuidenhout \u00a0for his third tour with the orchestra, in a programme of Mozart, WF and JC Bach, with period flautist Melissa Farrow. The South African born keyboard player who began his music studies in Australia comments:\u00a0\u201cThe beautiful fortepiano that Detmar Hungerberg\u00a0made for the Brandenburg is truly one of the most responsive instruments I\u2019ve had the pleasure of playing. It is one of\u00a0those rare pianos \u2013 in this case a copy of a five-octave Viennese instrument from 1800 much like the one Mozart would\u00a0have known.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Baroque violinist Riccardo Minasi returns in October to perform a selection of &#8216;recently discovered gems from the city of Naples&#8217;. Although the names of these composers &#8211; de Majo, Ragazzi, Leo, Sarro, Jommelli and Fiorenza &#8211; are not widely known, Dyer says &#8220;It has always been such a pleasure for me to introduce Australian audiences to music that they\u2019ve never\u00a0heard before, these great undiscovered gems of the baroque. I was thrilled when Riccardo proposed this music that\u00a0very few people have heard in performance for centuries.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>True to tradition, in December, the orchestra joins forced with the Brandenburg Choir for its annual presentation of\u00a0<em>NO\u00cbL! NO\u00cbL! <\/em>featuring<em>\u00a0<\/em>Gregorian chant, medieval carols,\u00a0French and German hymns, English Christmas songs and other favourites.<\/p>\n<p>The Brandenburg Choir features at the beginning of the year as well with the opening tour in February\/March centred on the music of Handel with Argentinian soprano\u00a0Mariana Flor\u00e8s and Portuguese tenor\u00a0Fernando Guimar\u00e3es in their Australian debuts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And there are surprises too &#8211; <em>Vivaldi Unwired <\/em>in May<em>,\u00a0<\/em>sees Max Richter&#8217;s popular\u00a0<em>Recomposed \u2013 Vivaldi:\u00a0The Four Seasons <\/em>with baroque violinist\u00a0Brendan Joyce with\u00a0Paul Dyer taking to the synthesiser &#8211; a period instrument of a different kind!
