Soprano Nadia Piave and pianist Mauro Colombis have put together Cinema!<\/em>\u00a0a programme of songs by\u00a0Nino Rota,\u00a0Georges Delerue\u00a0and <\/i>Charles Chaplin\u00a0from Italian and French movies from the 1950’s through to the 1980’s – the gorgeous themes of Fellini’s\u00a0La Strada<\/i>\u00a0and Tornatore’s\u00a0<\/em>Cinema Paradiso<\/i>,<\/em>\u00a0and those haunting songs from Colpi’s\u00a0Une Aussi Longue Absence,<\/i>\u00a0Truffaut’s\u00a0<\/em>L’Amour a Vignt Ans<\/i>\u00a0and Sautet’s\u00a0Les Choses de La Vie…<\/i>\u00a0this concert\u00a0takes you to the studios of\u00a0Cinecitta in Rome\u00a0and Pathe in Paris…\u00a0<\/p>\n

…..and the Chaplin connection? well Charles Chaplin lived in Switzerland, where they speak French and Italian, and he made a film called “The Immigrant” (lots of Italians there, from the south of Italy, and from the Veneto, where they speak a dialect…which could almost be French!!!)\u00a0AND<\/em>\u00a02014 is the 100th anniversary of the creation of Charlie Chaplin’s ‘Tramp’ character – just so happens\u00a0Mauro\u00a0is one of Australia’s leading accompanists for silent film, so who knows what else Nadia and Mauro might\u00a0have for you\u00a0under our bowler hats…<\/p>\n

..tutti in piazza…tutti in piazza…! <\/em>from\u00a0<\/em>Amarcord….<\/i>and other wonderful quotes, in a concert dedicated to songs of the cinema.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Italo-Australian Nadia Piave is an independant performer and runs a private teaching studio; she also\u00a0teaches at the Sydney Conservatorium Open Academy and performs with the Nadia Piave Trio\u00a0for Musica Viva. In 2008 she was named the National Italian-Australian Woman of the Year for her dedication and contribution to the dissemination of Italian song throughout Australia.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Italian-born Mauro Colombis is a recital\u00a0accompanist, and is in wide demand\u00a0as a pianist for silent films in Australia and abroad.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This concert is part of the inaugural\u00a0Festival of Double Belonging<\/em>,\u00a0a festival where performers celebrate their\u00a0dual cultural backgrounds.\u00a0<\/p>\n
