{"id":18144,"date":"2015-02-18T17:05:56","date_gmt":"2015-02-18T06:05:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/soundslikesydney.com.au\/?p=18144"},"modified":"2015-02-18T17:05:56","modified_gmt":"2015-02-18T06:05:56","slug":"acacia-presents-love-notes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/soundslikesydney.com.au\/?p=18144","title":{"rendered":"Acacia Presents&#8230;.Love Notes"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_18145\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18145\" style=\"width: 325px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-18145\" alt=\"The Acacia Quartet.\" src=\"https:\/\/soundslikesydney.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Acacia-Quartet-2014-620-325x126.jpg\" width=\"325\" height=\"126\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-18145\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Acacia Quartet.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Sydney based string ensemble the Acacia Quartet presents <em>Love Notes,<\/em> a concert in their 2015 series called <em>Acacia Presents&#8230;.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In <em>Love Notes<\/em>, the Acacia Quartet will perform the music of \u00a0Dvorak, Sculthorpe and Borodin along with a narration by Rachel Gregg of 12 Poems by Moravian novelist, poet and playwright\u00a0Gustav Pfleger-Moravsky<b>\u00a0(<\/b>1833\u00a0&#8211;\u00a01875).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">As well, this year Acacia is offering free entry to the &#8216;Acacia Presents&#8230;&#8217; concerts for students\u00a0under 18, extending a special invitation to children, grandchildren and friends.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Acacia describe the works, saying \u00a0&#8220;inspired by love, these distinctive works will take you on a special musical journey\u00a0directly from the composers\u2019 hearts.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Antonin Dvorak\u2019s lovesick\u00a0\u2018<em>Cypresses\u2019<\/em>\u00a0were written in 1887 for a student with whom he was completely smitten but who\u00a0didn\u2019t reciprocate his\u00a0feelings;\u00a0she\u00a0finally\u00a0married\u00a0another man and Dvorak ended up marrying her younger sister. Acacia will be joined by the actress\u00a0Rachel Gregg who will read the translations of the\u00a0<em>12 Poems<\/em>\u00a0by Gustav Pfleger-Moravsky on which Dvorak based his music. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_18146\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18146\" style=\"width: 120px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18146\" alt=\"Actress and narrator Rachel Gregg\" src=\"https:\/\/soundslikesydney.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/download-14.jpg\" width=\"120\" height=\"120\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-18146\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Actress and narrator Rachel Gregg<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Peter Sculthorpe adored his mother and wrote the lyrical\u00a0<em>Left Bank Waltz<\/em>\u00a0with her in mind. This piece was originally for piano but has been kindly arranged for Acacia by fellow Australian composer, Ann\u00a0Carr-Boyd.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Acacia will finish the concert with one of the most loved quartets of all time, the\u00a0<em>String Quartet No 2<\/em>, by the great Russian romantic Aleaxander Borodin, written as an\u00a0anniversary present to his dear wife.
