Direct from its Royal Opera House performance, Australian cinemas will screen Tim\u00a0Albery\u2019s Olivier-nominated production of Wagner\u2019s opera, Der fliegende Holl\u00e4nder, <\/em>filmed and recorded live in high-definition from the stage of London’s Royal Opera at Covent Garden on 24 February 2015.<\/p>\n
The opera tells the intense of the intense and dangerous attraction between The Flying\u00a0Dutchman sung by Bryn Terfel, a man doomed to sail the seas for eternity, and Senta, sung\u00a0by Canadian soprano Adrianne Pieczonka, the woman whose faithful love could\u00a0redeem him.<\/p>\nBryn Terfel as The Dutchman. <\/p>\n
The stark setting of the isolate Baltic community and dark themes of the opera are\u00a0captured by Michael Levine\u2019s atmospheric set designs, including a huge rolling metal\u00a0hull that looms over the characters representing the oppressive phantom ship.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Conductor Andris Nelsons, acclaimed for his Wagner interpretations, returns to the podium of the Royal Opera House.<\/p>\n
Following this filming, Bryn Terfel\u00a0will be visiting Australia to perform with the Perth and Melbourne Symphony\u00a0Orchestras. The cinema screenings of Der fliegende Holl\u00e4nder<\/em> coincide with his March performances in Melbourne as\u00a0M\u00e9phistoph\u00e9l\u00e8s\u00a0in The Damnation of Faust.<\/em><\/p>\nThe Flying Dutchman – production from the Royal Opera Covent Garden.
