{"id":18939,"date":"2015-07-25T01:02:12","date_gmt":"2015-07-24T15:02:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/soundslikesydney.com.au\/?p=18939"},"modified":"2015-07-25T01:02:12","modified_gmt":"2015-07-24T15:02:12","slug":"marais-and-the-operatic-muse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/soundslikesydney.com.au\/?p=18939","title":{"rendered":"Marais And The Operatic Muse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-18940\" alt=\"2015 Marais Poster Concert 2\" src=\"https:\/\/soundslikesydney.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/2015-Marais-Poster-Concert-2-170x240.jpg\" width=\"170\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For their upcoming August programme, <em>Marais And The Operatic Muse. t<\/em>he Marais Project turns its attention to Marin Marais\u2019 long-neglected operas which were much acclaimed at the Court of Louis XIV.\u00a0 On the menu will be excerpts from Marais\u2019 best known opera, <em>S\u00e9m\u00e9l\u00e9<\/em> and a cantata by another favourite composer, Michel Pignolet de Mont\u00e9clair.<b>\u00a0 <\/b>Regular Marais Project soprano and French music specialist, Belinda Montgomery, will be joined by up and coming baritone Alexander Knight for an afternoon of the kind of musical rarities The Marais Project is renowned for.\u00a0They also welcome recorder player Mikaela Oberg on her debut performance with The Marais Project.<\/p>\n<p>Viola da gambist and founder and artistic director of The Maris Project, Jennifer Eriksson is a specialist in French music. She has developed and presented no less than four \u201cchild friendly\u201d operas for the\u00a0<i>Musica Viva in Schools<\/i>\u00a0program over the past 25 years. \u00a0She has drawn on this expertise to curate this programme\u00a0<em>Marais And The Operatic Muse.\u00a0<\/em>Jennifer Eriksson has a knack for combining the obscure with the mainstream to the delight of audiences across the country.\u00a0 She is just as happy playing a folk song from her grandfather\u2019s home country of Sweden as she is presenting thrilling music from the baroque era or new works written for her that are literally \u201chot off the press\u201d.
