Facade An Entertainment<\/em>\u00a0is a boundlessly imaginative interplay of words and music, tripping joyfully through English life, highlighting the nonsensical, the peculiar and quixotic! William\u00a0Walton’s music is written for a\u00a0small chamber ensemble of 6 players to poems by Edith Sitwell spoken in time to the music.<\/p>\n

These thirty-one musical vignettes that capture the wit, frivolity and blithe spirit of the 1920\u2019s\u00a0will be performed by Silvia Colloca & Simon Lobelson\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the 1920\u2019s William Walton’s inspired musical settings of Edith Sitwell’s surrealist poetry caused an outrage when performed with their scandalous modern sounds and absurdist prose.\u00a0The cryptic words spoken through a megaphone by Sitwell herself, hidden behind a screen, together with Walton\u2019s jazz-inspired music and rhythms of Tango, Foxtrot, Tarantella and Waltz through to the modern sounds of Stravinsky and Satie caused a sensation.<\/p>\n

Grouped together as Facade Entertainments<\/em>, these idiosyncratic musical miniatures are today celebrated for capturing the eccentricity of 1920\u2019s surrealist music performance like no other work.<\/p>\n

Recited by Silvia Colloca and Simon Lobelson, accompanied by the Sirius Chamber Ensemble conducted by Luke Spicer. \u00a0Direction by Matthew Barclay and Johanna Puglisi, lighting by Colin Alexander<\/p>\n
