In the early 1900s he travelled throughout his native Hungary and elsewhere in Eastern Europe in search of traditional melodies. <em>Bart\u00f3k\u00a0<\/em>and his friend Zolt\u00e1n Kod\u00e1ly notated the songs and dances of peasant communities soon to be scattered or destroyed by two world wars. When Bart\u00f3k composed his <em>Forty-Four Duos<\/em> in 1931, he mined his rich stock of Hungarian, Slovakian, Romanian, Ruthenian, Ukrainian and Algerian folk tunes for source material. \u00a0<em>Bart\u00f3k 44 Duos<\/em> \u00a0sees the sibling violinists draw deep from their cultural roots to express the passion and energy of works inspired by Eastern European and Arabian folk song and dance.<\/p>\n<p>Each of Bart\u00f3k\u2019s duos is based almost entirely on an existing folk melody, either collected by Bart\u00f3k or by other expert ethnographers. The complete set, contained in four books, opens with a <em>Matchmaking Song<\/em> and includes evocatively titled works like\u00a0<em>Teasing Song, Limping Dance, Mosquito Dance<\/em> and <em>Romanian Whirling Song<\/em>. These works enter the Universal Classics catalogue for the first time with the Nemtanu sisters\u2019 recording.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Nemtanu was born in 1981 and her sister Deborah, followed two years later. They began their violin studies with their father Vladimir who was first violinist with the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine. They both progressed to the\u00a0Conservatoire regional influence of Bordeaux and the \u00a0National Conservatory of Music in Paris where they studied with G\u00e9rard Poulet.<\/p>\n<p>In 2005, Deborah was appointed concertmaster of the\u00a0Ensemble orchestral de Paris<a href=\"https:\/\/translate.googleusercontent.com\/translate_c?depth=1&amp;hl=en&amp;prev=search&amp;rurl=translate.google.lk&amp;sl=fr&amp;u=https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ensemble_orchestral_de_Paris&amp;usg=ALkJrhhlWnKhFYGxB776qPulZRZv-2rV-g\">.<\/a> From 2002, Sarah has been co-concertmaster of \u00a0the Orchestre National de France,\u00a0with whom she also performed as a soloist.\u00a0In\u00a02009,\u00a0she played the role of the violin soloist in Radu Mihaileanu\u2019s film<em> Le concert<\/em> \u00a0performing the\u00a0Violin Concerto by Tchaikovsky.<\/p>\n<p>The sisters say they have been playing Bart\u00f3k\u2019s duos from when they were \u00a05 and 7 years old.
