The Omega ensemble will perform the arrangement by Pierluigi Destro (b 1959) the Italian oboeist who, in 1998, reconstructed the score for 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 horns, 2 bassoons and double bassoon.<\/p>\n<p>First performed at a benefit concert for wounded soldiers, the symphony achieved instant and lasting popularity. It is driven by an intoxicating energy in what Wagner\u00a0described as the &#8220;apotheosis of dance.&#8221; The symphony follows works by Gounod and Spohr who are better known for their operatic creations, but who also made outstanding contributions to the\u00a0instrumental canon. Gounod&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Petite Symphonie<\/em>\u00a0is charming, while the sparkling\u00a0<em>Grand Nonetto<\/em>\u00a0flaunts Spohr&#8217;s melodic brilliance.<\/p>\n<p>The music:<\/p>\n<p>Gounod\u00a0<em>Petite Symphonie<\/em>\/\u00a0Spohr\u00a0<em>Grand Nonetto, Op. 31<\/em>\/\u00a0Beethoven\u00a0<em>Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92<\/em> arr.
