The Balmain Sinfonia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Balmain Sinfonia begins its 2017 season with a concert of music by Mahler, Mozart and Debussy, showcasing young Australian soprano Zoe Drummond, conducted by recently honoured artistic director Gary Stavrou OAM.<\/p>\n

In this popular series of Saturday afternoon concerts, the orchestra will play\u00a0Debussy\u2019s Petite Suite<\/em>, Mozart\u2019s Exsultate, Jubilate<\/em> – almost a concerto for voice – and Mahler’s 4th Symphony,\u00a0<\/em>which features a closing vocal movement.<\/p>\n

Soprano Zoe Drummond<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The soloist is young Sydney soprano Zoe Drummond – a first class honours graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, now in the\u00a03rd year of her Melba Opera Trust scholarship. In 2016, she won the prestigious Opera Foundation for Young Australians Lady Fairfax New York Scholarship. She also made her Opera Australia principal debut in The Eighth Wonder <\/em>and recorded her first CD with The Seven Sopranos.<\/p>\n

This year, Zoe Drummond performs with Victorian Opera and Opera Australia\u00a0 before commencing post-graduate study on a full scholarship at\u00a0London\u2019s Guildhall School of Music and Drama on full scholarship.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s fitting that, in the Balmain Sinfonia\u2019s 25th anniversary year, its founder, chief conductor and artistic director,
\nGary Stavrou was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for services to music on\u00a0Australia Day 2017.<\/p>\n
