Bass-baritone Adrian Tamburini wins the 2017 Opera Award<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Adrian Tamburini, the NSW bass-baritone has been announced as the winner of the 2017 Opera Awards. He was selected after audition and interview by an eminent panel of adjudicators\u00a0comprising musician and artist Dr Di Bresciani OAM, tenor Anson Austin OAM, soprano Cheryl Barker AO and maestro Simon Kenway.<\/p>\n

As winner of the Opera Awards, Adrian was awarded the YMFAustralia Award of $30,000 and the Armstrong-Martin Scholarship of $4,500.<\/p>\n

Other awards went to NSW mezzo-soprano Anna Dowsley who won\u00a0the Britten-Pears Prize which offers an opportunity to participate in the Strauss Lieder & Arias course with Angelika Kirchschlager and Malcolm Martineau in the UK as well as a scholarship to cover travel and expenses; Qld soprano Eva Kong who won\u00a0the 4MBS Classic FM Award, offering the opportunity to perform in the annual 4MBS Festival of Classics, Australia’s largest classical music festival; and NSW baritone Andrew Moran, who\u00a0won the Glyndebourne Festival Prize, an opportunity to audition for the Glyndebourne Festival Opera as well as to attend staged rehearsals.<\/p>\n

In 2017, Adrian Tamburini has been seen on the stage of the Sydney Opera House as Baron Douphol in La Traviata<\/em> and as Sciarrone in Tosca<\/em>. His other roles in 2016 include Pietro in\u00a0Simon Boccanegra,<\/em> The Cook\u00a0in The Love for Three Oranges<\/em>\u00a0and The Maestro in\u00a0The Eighth Wonder<\/em>\u00a0for Opera Australia and as soloist for the Penrith Symphony Orchestra in Verdi\u2019s Requiem<\/em>. \u00a0In 2017, he will also sing the title role in the touring production of The Marriage of Figaro<\/em> for Opera Australia and appears with the national company as well in Carmen<\/em>\u00a0and La boh\u00e8me<\/em>.<\/p>\n
