For Nicholas Carter, life is going to be busier than ever with the addition of a new European position to his portfolio alongside his present appointment as\u00a0Principal Conductor of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.<\/p>\n

The Melbourne-born conductor will be commuting between Australia and Austria in his new role as Chefdirigent of Stadttheater Klagenfurt and the K\u00e4rntnersinfonieorchester in Austria, a position\u00a0which he will take up in September 2018 for an initial three-year term.<\/p>\n

Carter will conduct three productions each season, of which at least two will be new, in addition to conducting\u00a0regularly in their concert season.\u00a0For three years until 2011, Carter was Assistant Conductor with the Sydney Symphony, working with Vladimir Ashkenazy and the orchestra\u2019s guest conductors. Subsequently, he was appointed Associate Conductor of the Sydney Symphony.<\/p>\n

Carter moved from Australia to Hamburg in 2011, where he was Kapellmeister to Simone Young at the Staatsoper Hamburg for a number of seasons. After this he moved to the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he served Donald
\nRunnicles in the same role for the 2014\/2015 and 2015\/2016 seasons. Carter continues to appear as guest conductor at the Deutsche Oper Berlin each season.<\/p>\n

Carter comments: \u201cKlagenfurt am W\u00f6rthersee is a place that breathes music. Mahler, Brahms and Berg were all
\ndrawn to this magical part of the world and I and my family anticipate with great pleasure making our home there.
\nAlready, I have shared wonderful evenings of music-making with the musicians of the Staatstheater Klagenfurt and the
\nK\u00e4rntnersinfonieorchester and am delighted and honoured to have been invited to become their next Chefdirigent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meantime, Carter’s contract with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra as Principal Conductor will continue till until at least the end of calendar year 2018.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m delighted to continue this most special relationship with the Adelaide Symphony…..\u00a0I feel the relationship deepening and becoming ever more fulfilling. Having worked with the orchestra for many years now, I feel so at home there and look forward to continuing to discover, develop and grow, both as an individual and as an organization. It\u2019s the greatest privilege to lead such a tremendous orchestra and I relish the prospect of continuing this wonderful musical journey\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Nicholas Carter\u2019s guest conducting career continues to develop in Australia, Europe and North America. Recent
\nhighlights include debuts with BBC Scottish Symphony, MDR Leipzig, Orchestre National de Lille, Oregon Symphony,
\nHong Kong Philharmonic, and returns to Sydney, Melbourne and Dallas Symphony Orchestras. Forthcoming guest
\nconducting includes USA and Canada, returns to Deutsche Oper Berlin and his debut next month at Deutsche Oper am
\nRhein (D\u00fcsseldorf), where he conducts their new production of Don Pasquale, directed by Rolando Villazon.<\/p>\n
