The Sydney University Graduate Choir is delighted to present a performance of choral music of the \u00a0– <\/em>the golden era of French creativity. The choir will be accompanied by a full orchestra and the organ of the Great Hall, Sydney University.<\/p>\n

Works on this program will be the\u00a0Requiem <\/em>by Saint-Sa\u00ebns, Franck\u2019s Psalm 150<\/em>, and the famous Pavane <\/em>by Faur\u00e9, performed in a choral version created by the composer.<\/p>\n

A highlight of the concert will be a performance of D\u00e9mocratie<\/em>\u00a0by Christopher Bowen, OAM.<\/p>\n

It was prescient for a 20-year-old poet from the 19th<\/sup> century to write a work that reflects the tensions and drama of our current world politics. Arthur Rimbaud\u2019s prose-poem D\u00e9mocratie<\/em> is a powerful and imaginative setting for Australian composer, Christopher Bowen, to set to music. Christopher Bowen invites the listener into a world of witty satire and political provocation.<\/p>\n

This performance marks Christopher Bowen\u2019s 25th<\/sup> anniversary as Music Director of the Choir. The choir regularly commissions works by Mr Bowen, and is delighted to be able to bring his music to life in concert. In 2014, the Choir performed the world premiere of his powerful Australian War Requiem<\/em> at the Sydney Town Hall.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
