Image credit Marco Borggreve<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Kristian Bezuidenhout returns to Sydney to reprise his appearances with the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO).<\/p>\n<p>Bezuidenhout will play with an intimate ensemble of ACO musicians, including Artistic Director Richard Tognetti, Principal Violin Helena Rathbone, Guest Principal Viola Florian Peelman and Principal Cello Timo-Veikko \u2018Tipi\u2019 Valve. Together, they will perform some of the moving music written for strings and piano by\u00a0Mozart and Schumann.<\/p>\n<p>Born in South Africa, raised in Australia, and educated in the US, Bezuidenhout rose to fame at the age of 21, winning first prize at the prestigious Bruges Fortepiano Competition. He is known internationally as one of the world\u2019s leading performers of Mozart.<\/p>\n<p>Bezuidenhout\u00a0grew up on the Gold Coast before moving to the US to study at the Eastman School of Music. He\u00a0first heard the music of Mozart when he saw the film <em>Amadeus<\/em> as a child. It left a lasting impression with the pianist \u2018madly obsessed\u2019 with the composer to this day.<\/p>\n<p>On the program is Mozart\u2019s <em>Piano Concerto No. 13,<\/em> a work that Bezuidenhout describes as \u201castonishingly ground-breaking for its time\u201d. Mozart wrote of the concerto that it could be \u201cperformed with full orchestra\u2026or merely a quattro\u201d, which is how it will be presented in the ACO&#8217;s concerts. Schumann\u2019s <em>String Quartet No.3<\/em> and <em>Piano Quintet<\/em> will bookend the program.
