Konstantin Shamray<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Pianist Konstantin Shamray joins the array of wonderful past winners of the Sydney International Piano Competition of Australia in celebrating its 40th year. Shamray is\u00a0the only pianist in the 40 year history of the Competition to win the First Prize and the People\u2019s Choice Prize, both in 2008.<\/p>\n

Born into a musical family in 1985 in Russia, Shamray started studies at the Kemerovo Music School with Natalia Knobloch, aged 6. He continued with post-graduate studies in Russia and in 2014, he completed advanced courses at Hochschule fur Musik in Freiburg, Germany. He is currently completing a PhD at the Elder Conservatorium, University of Adelaide.<\/p>\n

Konstantin is the first and only competitor to date in the 40 years of the Sydney International Piano Competition to win both First and People\u2019s Choice Prizes, in addition to six other prizes. \u00a0Following his unprecedented success at SIPCA in 2008, he undertook a 27 performance national tour of Australia and partnered with the Australian String Quartet for their 13-concert National Subscription Tour of 2009 as well as recording CDs for Naxos, ABC Classics and Fonoforum.<\/p>\n

He has performed with the Russian National Philharmonic, the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, Moscow Virtuosi, Orchestre National de Lyon, Prague Philharmonia, Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony among others under the baton of distinguished conductors including Vladimir Spivakov, Dmitry Liss, Tugan Sokhiev, Nicholas Milton and Alexandr Vedernikov.<\/p>\n
