Fourteen years after his debut with the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO), the world’s greatest flautist Emmanuel Pahud, will return to Australia for a national concert tour with the ACO.<\/p>\n
Pahud\u2019s virtuosity has earned him the reputation of being one of classical music\u2019s greatest musicians; he has also become one of the industry\u2019s busiest. Since his appointment as Principal Flute with the Berlin Philharmonic at only 22 years of age, Pahud has maintained a schedule that sees him perform 75 concerts a year with the Berlin Philharmonic and approximately 90 concerts as a soloist or chamber musician.<\/p>\n

Pahud has a long collaborative relationship with the ACO and its Artistic Director Richard Tognetti, having \u00a0first performed with them in 2003. He describes his first encounter with Tognetti: “I first met Richard about 15 years ago when he asked me to premiere Carl Vine\u2019s Flute<\/em> Concerto<\/em> with the ACO. We got on immediately, both on and off stage,\u201d Pahud said. \u201cHe is an extremely spirited musician and brings a lot of freedom of thought and expression to every rehearsal and performance, combined with a rigorous discipline. It\u2019s an approach that I also try to apply to my playing, which makes our collaborations together very climactic, I feel.\u201d<\/p>\n Pahud and the ACO will together perform a diverse program that weaves like a historical adventure \u2013 tracing the Franco-Germanic lineage from Bach senior, to his son Carl Philipp Emanuel, through to Franck, Debussy, Ravel and Boulez.<\/p>\n Pahud records exclusively with Warner Classics (formally EMI Classics) and has released more than 25 critically acclaimed albums with the label. In 2009 the French government bestowed him the honour of Chevalier dans l\u2019Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his contribution to music, and in 2011 he was made an Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Music.
