What do you get when you cross one of Australia\u2019s leading baroque music ensembles with two of Australia\u2019s most creative young musicians? The answer is an adventure!\u00a0A Christmas musical adventure!<\/p>\n

To celebrate the season and mark the final 2017 concert of the Independent Theatre\u2019s hit classical music series \u201cPrelude in Tea\u201d, The\u00a0Marais\u00a0Project\u2019s Jennifer Eriksson is joined by\u00a0Emily-Rose\u00a0\u0160\u00e1rkova, Susie Bishop, Sean Ng and Stephen\u00a0Elphick\u00a0to perform\u00a0rare Christmas music from around the globe, including\u00a0\u0160\u00e1rkova\u2019s arrangement of Marin\u00a0Marais\u00a0for viola da gamba and piano accordion, in the fine acoustic of the Independent Theatre.<\/p>\n

Classically trained in Australia and Europe,\u00a0\u0160\u00e1rkova\u00a0and Bishop fuse the discipline of classical music with the passion, fire and freedom of tango and world music. and much more.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Marais\u00a0Project \u2013 led by gamba virtuoso Jenny Eriksson – is a celebration of music around the work of Marin\u00a0Marais, the great French virtuoso viola da gamba performer and composer. Since its formation in 2000\u00a0Marais\u00a0has presented 18 years of creative concert and extended its repertoire beyond the French baroque to include mediaeval and renaissance music as well as commissioning and recording some twenty new Australian works.\u00a0The\u00a0Marais\u00a0Project has released 5 CDs, three of which have been selected as \u201cCD of the Week\u201d on ABC Classic FM.<\/p>\n

This concert also marks the release of their sixth CD:\u00a0Spinning Forth<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 which features pieces by Louis de\u00a0Caix\u00a0D\u2019Hervelois and Marin\u00a0Marais\u00a0as well as world premiere recordings of works by Australian composers Paul\u00a0Cutlan, Llew and Mara\u00a0 Kiek\u00a0 and\u00a0 Hjort\u00a0 Anders\u00a0 Olsson.<\/p>\n
