It was one of the most popular instruments of the Renaissance and Baroque times but is rarely heard today.<\/p>\n<p>On this tour, Lixsania will play music by Vivaldi and German composer Johann Graun, as well as something left field for a baroque orchestra &#8211; a tango!\u00a0The concerto tango was written in 2001\u00a0by Renato Duchiffre (a nom-de-plume of Cleveland-based baroque cellist and gamba player Ren\u00e9 Schiffer), for Baroque orchestra with two viola da gambas taking centre stage. These instruments, synonymous with the French aristocratic court, lead the band in a sizzling and seductive ten-minute tango, a dance with origins in the brothels and bars of Buenos Aires.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_25411\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25411\" style=\"width: 178px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25411\" src=\"https:\/\/soundslikesydney.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/7GXuukqQ.jpeg\" alt=\"Shaun Lee-Chen\" width=\"178\" height=\"178\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-25411\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shaun Lee-Chen<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Also in this concert series, the Brandenburg\u2019s Concertmaster Shaun Lee-Chen will take on one of the most challenging of violin concertos, Locatelli\u2019s famed and feared \u2018Labyrinth\u2019. Locatelli&#8217;s work profoundly influenced violin playing in the 18th century.
