Bel a Cappella with director Anthony Pasquill<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Choral ensemble Bel a Cappella directed by Anthony Pasquill explores literal and figurative aspects of night with a glorious selection of music from around the world in Threshold of Night.<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>The program includes the luminous Threshold of Night<\/em>, from which the concert takes its name, by Tarik O’Regan, one of today’s leading British composers. As always, at the popular Prelude in Tea series, the Sunday afternoon concert includes a mouth-watering selection of cakes and refreshments.<\/p>\n

The popular 30-strong\u00a0a cappella<\/em> choir will also perform works by \u0112riks E\u0161envalds, Gy\u00f6rgy Ligeti, Arturs Maskats, T\u00f5nu K\u00f5rvits, Kaija Saariaho, Hugo Alfv\u00e9n, Morten Laurisden’s Nocturnes<\/em> and Ola Gjeilo’s Dark Night of the Soul<\/em>. They will be singing in Swedish, Latin, Latvian, French, Spanish, German\u2026 and Hungarian!<\/p>\n

A hugely in-demand conductor and chorus-master, Bel a Cappella artistic director Anthony Pasquill was recently named a Rising Star<\/em> in Australia\u2019s choral scene by Limelight magazine.<\/p>\n

Bel a Cappella was established in 1995 at Sydney University and is dedicated to the performance of diverse, high quality and demanding choral music in Sydney\u2019s finest venues. With an extensive repertoire ranging from Gregorian chant to twentieth-century music, their regular concerts are designed to appeal to both choral music newcomers and connoisseurs.<\/p>\n

Bel a cappella also participates in significant choral events, including the 2008\u00a0Sydney A Cappella Festival<\/em>\u00a0and the 2009\u00a0Blackheath Choir Festival<\/em>.\u00a0In 2009, Bel a cappella achieved first place in both the Chamber Choir and Sacred Choral Awards in the Sydney Eisteddfod.\u00a0In 2010 Bel a cappella was selected to perform at\u00a0Choralfest<\/em>, the biennial national conference of the Australian National Choral Association, in Port Macquarie. In 2015 the choir undertook its first overseas tour\u00a0to Rome, Venice and Vienna and has recently returned from its second European tour that saw sell out performances in Leipzig, Krakow, Prague and Budapest.<\/p>\n
