The Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra presents\u00a0Madness & Confrontation<\/em>\u00a0in its celebratory season opener themed around Mozart and madness.<\/p>\n

Madness & Confrontation<\/em> takes its inspiration from the story of the orchestra\u2019s founding artistic director Richard Gill AO conducting Mozart\u2019s The Marriage of Figaro<\/em> (based on the original play \u201cDay of Madness\u201d). It was the late, legendary musician and music educator who, together with co-artistic directors Rachael Beesley and Nicole van Bruggen, had the idea of establishing the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra.<\/p>\n

Along with a selection of duets and arias from Figaro, Mozart\u2019s well-known clarinet concerto is performed by Nicole van Bruggen on basset clarinet \u2013 the original instrument for which the work was written. The climactic piece is Beethoven’s magnificent 5th Symphony – which ushered classical music into a new era. Its infamous opening four-note motif confronts and enthralls audiences to this day.<\/p>\n

The Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra is directed by Rachael Beesley with soloists soprano Jacqueline Porter, baritone David Greco, and Nicole van Bruggen, basset clarinet.<\/p>\n
