Following his debut in 1973 as Oberon for UNSW Opera, Graham Pushee\u00a0performed widely throughout Australia before being awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 1977,\u00a0which enabled him to study in London and\u00a0subsequently at the Schola Cantorum\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"spellingerror\">Basiliensis<\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">\u00a0in Basel, Switzerland,\u00a0where he then lived for over 20 years.<\/span><span class=\"eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Highly acclaimed both for his vocal and dramatic portrayals, he was known for his characterisations of the heroic roles of Handel and of lyric roles in the early 17th Century repertoire. Guest appearances took him to the world\u2019s leading opera houses including La Scala Milan, Staatsoper and Komische Oper Berlin, <\/span><span class=\"spellingerror\">Bayerische<\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">\u00a0Staatsoper Munich, Opera\u00a0Cologne, Frankfurt\u00a0Opera,\u00a0La Monnaie Brussels, Opera National de Paris, Lyon and Montpellier and Houston Grand Opera. He was<\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">\u00a0a regular guest at festivals including Salzburg Easter Festival, Holland Festival, Innsbruck Festival, Vienna Festwochen, Heidelberg Castle Festival, Boston\u2019s Handel and Haydn Society, and the Handel Festivals in Maryland USA, Karlsruhe, G\u00f6ttingen and Halle. For Opera Australia Graham also sang Ruggiero (<i>Alcina<\/i>), Rinaldo and Goffredo (<i>Rinaldo<\/i>) and Apollo (<i>Death in Venice<\/i>), and featured at both the 40<\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">\u00a0and 50th Birthday and\u00a0the\u00a0New Years\u2019 Eve Galas.<\/span><span class=\"eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Concert appearances in Europe and Australia include Bach\u2019s <em>St. Matthew and St. John Passions<\/em>, the <em>Christmas Oratorio<\/em>, the <em>Mass in B minor, <\/em>Handel oratorios, and major works of Telemann, Purcell, Vivaldi, Pergolesi, Sch\u00fctz and Monteverdi. <\/span><span class=\"eop\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Graham\u2019s recordings include\u00a0<i>Tamerlano<\/i>\u00a0(Handel),\u00a0<i>La Calisto<\/i>\u00a0(Cavalli), and\u00a0<i>Giulio Cesare<\/i>\u00a0on DVD,\u00a0his Handel aria\u00a0disc\u00a0with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, his\u00a0Vivaldi solo album\u00a0with Aurora\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"contextualspellingandgrammarerror\">Musicale\u00a0(<\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">both on ABC Classics)\u00a0and many others.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"eop\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Since returning\u00a0to Australia\u00a0he\u00a0has since taught and coached at the\u00a0Sydney\u00a0Conservatorium of Music, given Masterclasses and workshops for Opera Queensland, the\u00a0Melba\u00a0Opera Trust and WAAPA\u00a0and adjudicated and presented vocal competitions.
