Photo credit Dario Acosta<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Where:<\/strong> Adelaide Town Hall<\/p>\n<p><strong>When:<\/strong> Tuesday 9 March 8 pm<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\"><span class=\"color_25\">American countertenor Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen is just 26 years old, but is already one of the classical world&#8217;s most promising vocal stars. In 2021, he makes his Australian and role debuts as Oberon in Benjamin Britten&#8217;s fantasy opera <em>A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream<\/em> at the Adelaide Festival in the acclaimed Neil Armfield production, conducted by Britten scholar Paul Kildea.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As well as his season in the opera, this remarkable counter-tenor will also give a recital at the Adelaide Festival with pianist Konstantin Shamray, performing songs by Duparc, Brahms, Ravel and\u00a0Leslie Adam\u2019s exquisite setting of\u00a0<em>Prayer<\/em> by Langston Hughes.<\/p>\n<section id=\"comp-ja8m3v13\" class=\"strc1\" data-responsive=\"true\" data-is-screen-width=\"true\" data-col-margin=\"0\" data-row-margin=\"0\">\n<div id=\"comp-ja8m3v13inlineContent\" class=\"strc1inlineContent\">\n<div id=\"comp-ja8m3v2o\" class=\"mc1\" data-content-width=\"588\" data-is-mesh=\"true\">\n<div id=\"comp-ja8m3v2ocontainer\" class=\"mc1container\">\n<div id=\"comp-ja8m3v2oinlineContentParent\" class=\"mc1inlineContentParent\">\n<div id=\"comp-ja8m3v2oinlineContent\" class=\"mc1inlineContent\">\n<div id=\"comp-ja8m3v2oinlineContent-gridWrapper\" data-mesh-internal=\"true\">\n<div id=\"comp-ja8m3v2oinlineContent-gridContainer\" data-mesh-internal=\"true\">\n<div id=\"comp-ja8m5158\" class=\"txtNew\" data-packed=\"true\" data-vertical-text=\"false\">\n<p class=\"font_8\"><span class=\"color_25\">Aryeh&#8217;s first commercial recording project, the world premiere recording of Kenneth Fuchs&#8217; <em>Poems of Life<\/em> with the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by JoAnn Falletta, won a 2019 GRAMMY\u00ae Award in the Best Classical Compendium category. He has followed this up with a swag of prestigious awards. This season, <\/span>he also makes his Metropolitan Opera debut as Rosencrantz in the Met and U.S. premiere of Brett Dean&#8217;s <em>Hamlet<\/em> in the Neil Armfield production, conducted by Maestro Nicholas Carter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\"><span class=\"wixGuard\">\u200b<\/span>Highlights of the past season included the role of David in Barrie Kosky\u2019s heralded production of Handel\u2019s\u00a0<em>Saul<\/em>\u00a0at\u00a0<span class=\"color_25\">Houston Grand Opera<\/span>, Bernstein\u2019s\u00a0<em>Chichester Psalms<\/em>\u00a0with the\u00a0<span class=\"color_25\">Buffalo Philharmonic<\/span>, and Handel\u2019s\u00a0<em>Messiah<\/em>\u00a0with the\u00a0<span class=\"color_25\">San Francisco Symphony\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"color_25\">and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font_8\"><span class=\"color_25\">A native of New York City, Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen became the first countertenor in the history of the Houston Grand Opera Studio during the 2017-18 season.\u00a0\u00a0His performances have included numerous roles in opera and on the concert stage as well as in recordings.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"comp-ja8m9wxx\" class=\"strc1\" data-responsive=\"true\" data-is-screen-width=\"true\" data-col-margin=\"0\" data-row-margin=\"0\">\n<div id=\"comp-ja8m9wxxbalata\" class=\"strc1balata\" data-page-id=\"i1trm\" data-enable-video=\"true\" data-bg-effect-name=\"\" data-media-type=\"\" data-use-clip-path=\"\" data-needs-clipping=\"\" data-render-type=\"bolt\">\n<div id=\"comp-ja8m9wxxbalatabgcolor\" class=\"bgColor\">\n<div id=\"comp-ja8m9wxxbalatabgcoloroverlay\" class=\"bgColoroverlay\"><strong>The recital: <\/strong>Countertenor<strong> Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen\/ <\/strong>Piano<strong>\u00a0Konstantin Shamray\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p><strong>Works<\/strong> by Johannes Brahms, G.F.
