The Sydney Symphony Orchestra welcomes back audiences to live performances with\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Romance Begins – Tchaikovsky\u2019s Violin Concerto, <\/span><\/em>th<\/span>e first program in its 2021 Season and a theme, which coincides with Valentine’s Day. Led by Chief Conductor Designate Simone Young, this will be the Sydney Symphony\u2019s first presentation in a concert venue since the COVID-19 shutdown nearly a year ago. It is <\/span><\/span>Maestra Young\u2019s first performance with a live audience since October 2020.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In a last-minute replacement, German-born and now Australian-based Daniel R\u00f6hn performs in place of Ray Chen who is unable to come to Australia. R\u00f6hn will debut with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, performing Tchaikovsky\u2019s Violin Concerto. Also on the programme, <\/span><\/span>Antonin\u00a0Dvo\u0159\u00e1k\u2019s Symphony No 9 <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span>From the New World<\/span><\/em>, and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the world-premiere\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Connor\u00a0D\u2019Netto\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Uncertain Planning.\u00a0<\/span><\/em>This work by the 26-year-old Queensland composer is\u00a0the first to be presented as part of the Sydney Symphony\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><\/span>50 Fanfares<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0major commissioning project.\u00a0The multi-year initiative commissions\u00a0and presents\u00a0the world premieres of new music by 50 Australian composers across a broad range of\u00a0backgrounds and\u00a0compositional styles.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

An award-winner,\u00a0D\u2019Netto\u00a0has been described as \u201cthe model contemporary Australian composer.\u201d His work combines lush orchestral textures with driving rhythms and\u00a0elements inspired by electronic music. He has previously been commissioned by Australian and international ensembles, and his work has been performed by artists\u00a0including\u00a0Australian singer-songwriter Katie Noonan.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
