{"id":29725,"date":"2022-02-03T12:45:58","date_gmt":"2022-02-03T01:45:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/soundslikesydney.com.au\/?p=29725"},"modified":"2022-02-03T12:45:58","modified_gmt":"2022-02-03T01:45:58","slug":"lise-davidsen-and-leif-ove-andsnes-release-new-album-of-grieg-songs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/soundslikesydney.com.au\/?p=29725","title":{"rendered":"Lise Davidsen and Leif Ove Andsnes Release New Album Of Grieg Songs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Lise Davidsen and Leif Ove Andsnes, the two prodigiously gifted Norwegian artists who have risen to the top of the classical music world, have collaborated for the first time on a new album of Edvard Grieg songs now released on Decca Classics.<\/p>\n<p>Recorded in the Norwegian town of Bod\u00f8 in the Arctic Circle, Davidsen and Andsnes identified closely with this repertoire which is central to Norway\u2019s musical identity. Davidsen says. \u2018I am very aware of the conventions of how it \u201cshould\u201d be done and by whom. This project was about listening to the music on our own terms, trying to find our Grieg sound.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Central to the album is Grieg\u2019s only song cycle, <em>Haugtussa<\/em> with text from Arne Garborg\u2019s 1895 verse novella <em>Haugtussa<\/em>, written in a native dialect as a statement of nationalism against the \u00a0Norwegian language which is derived from Danish. <em>Six Songs<\/em>, is influenced by Norwegian folk melodies and <em>Five Songs<\/em> in German demonstrates Grieg\u2019s mastery of expression and of Lied. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The duo has been on tour during January 2022, performing repertoire from the album along with songs by Strauss and Wagner.
