\"\"<\/a>Described as the \u201cUkrainian firebrand\u201d, pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk returns to the City Recital Hall for just one concert this weekend. Gavrylyuk has spent part of his life in Sydney and the city regards him with great affection. His concerts here are always welcomed.<\/p>\n

Drawn mostly from the Romantic Masters, the programme includes Beethoven Sonata No.14 \u201cMoonlight\u201d Op.27-2<\/em>, Chopin \u201cFantasy” Impromptu Op.66, 2 Nocturnes Op.48 and Scherzo No.1 in B minor <\/em>Rachmaninov Moments musicaux <\/em>and Prokofiev Sonata No.7 Op.83.<\/em><\/p>\n

At just 27 years of age, Gavrylyuk has earned high praise: \u201cA world class pianist performing at his absolute best\u201d\u2026New York Times<\/em>, 2005. and\u00a0 \u201c\u2026such blow-your-socks-off virtuosity is complemented with a dark, intense, ferociously concentrated essence and nature\u2026unlike so many competition winners we shall surely be hearing a lot more of this prodigiously gifted young pianist and life force.\u201d Bryce Morrison, Deutsche Gramophone June issue 2006.<\/p>\n

Gavrylyuk gained the attention of the critics when he won the coveted first prize in the 3rd Horowitz International Piano Competition in 1999 taking with him, the gold medal as well. He had come so close with 2nd<\/sup> prize in 1997, his return and placing in 1999, justified the high expectations and potential of this young pianist.<\/p>\n

This was followed in April 2005 with the first prize, Gold Medal and the award for Best Performance of a Classical Concerto in the 11th<\/sup> Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Masters Competition.<\/p>\n

In January 2007 that Gavrylyuk gave his solo debut recital at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatorium at the invitation of Nikolay Petrov. Currently based in Moscow, he has also performed a solo recital at the Kremlin and performed with Russian National Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra<\/a>, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Osaka Philharmonic, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israeli Chamber Orchestra, the, Kiev Philharmonic Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony, and Western Australia Symphony.<\/p>\n

Gavryluk has numerous recordings to his name, both on CD and DVD.<\/p>\n
