Congratulations to 23-year-old baritone Jeremy Boulton winner of the Marianne Mathy Scholarship (‘The Mathy\u2019) and the Nicole Car Prize. For his prize-winning performance, Bolton sang Questo amor, vergogna mia <\/em>from Puccini’s Edgar <\/em>and Or dove fuggo io mai <\/em>from Bellini’s I puritani. <\/em><\/p>\n

For the finals concert, the singers were accompanied by Vladimir Fanshill conducting the Opera Australia Orchestra who also gave their own thrilling renditions of the overture to Le nozze di Figaro<\/em> Johann Strauss II’s jovial \u00c9ljen a Magyar<\/em>.

Guest artist, soprano Eleanor Lyons, opened the second half of the concert stunning with  performances of Cil\u00e8a’s Io son l’umine ancella <\/em>and K\u00e1lm\u00e1n’s Heia, heia in den Bergen. <\/em><\/p>\n

As part of The Mathy, Jeremy Boulton also received the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Ryan Opera Center Audition Prize, the Lili Ussher Portrait Prize, the Oral History Award, the Winkipop Media Prize and The Mathy Statuette. 

Congratulations also to the winners of the other awards including Kristin Astouroghlian who won the Canadian Vocal Arts Institute Montreal Scholarship, Jake Bigwood who won the Nelly Apt Scholarship, Billie Tumarkin who won the Royal Northern College of Music Award and Younji Yi who won the Merenda Legacy Prize and the MOST Audience Choice Prize. All finalists received the Opera Australia Prize.<\/p>\n

The adjudication panel for the final comprised Graham Pushee (National Adjudicator), Cheryl Barker AO, Brian Castles-Onion AM, Michael Halliwell, and No\u00ebmi Terracini-Nadelmann.<\/p>\n

The concert was recorded in Sydney on 1 October 2022 at the Concourse Concert Hall in Chatswood and will be broadcast on ABC Classic.
