The double album <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deutschegrammophon.com\/en\/catalogue\/products\/from-afar-vkingur-olafsson-12765\"><em>From Afar<\/em><\/a> on the Deutsche Grammophon label, is described as a &#8220;window into his musical life story.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"_3Y0Lj\">The very personal double album reflects \u00d3lafsson\u2019s musical DNA, from his childhood in Iceland to his international career and contemporary inspirations. Interestingly, \u00d3lafsson plays on both upright and grand pianos, on this recording, capturing two distinct sound worlds with works by Bach, Mozart, Schumann, Brahms and Bart\u00f3k, alongside Icelandic and Hungarian folk songs, a world premiere by Thomas Ad\u00e8s, transcriptions by \u00d3lafsson himself, and linked with pieces composed by his hero, 96 year-old Hungarian composer and pianist Gy\u00f6rgy Kurt\u00e1g.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The 2 CDs contain 44 tracks in all including transcriptions of the music of J S Bach, excerpts from Schumann&#8217;s <em>Kinderszenen<\/em> and <em>Waldszenen<\/em>, the <em>Intermezzo,<\/em> <em>No 4<\/em> from <em>7 Piano Pieces<\/em> by Brahms, Three Hungarian folk songs by
