{"id":32117,"date":"2024-06-06T11:48:45","date_gmt":"2024-06-06T01:48:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/soundslikesydney.com.au\/?p=32117"},"modified":"2024-06-06T11:48:45","modified_gmt":"2024-06-06T01:48:45","slug":"a-new-album-from-the-marais-project-and-duo-langborn-wendel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/soundslikesydney.com.au\/a-new-album-from-the-marais-project-and-duo-langborn-wendel\/","title":{"rendered":"A New Album From The Marais Project And Duo Langborn\/Wendel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new album from The Marais Project and Sweden\u2019s Duo Langborn\/Wendel, on Move Records (MCD 656), <em>Nordic Moods &amp; Baroque Echoes<\/em> features tracks that weave together baroque music, traditional songs and originals by members of the ensemble.<\/p>\n<p><em>Nordic Moods &amp; Baroque Echoes<\/em> continues The Marais Project\u2019s decades-long commitment to exploring new repertoire<br \/>\nand dissolving artistic and geographical boundaries.\u00a0It documents the group\u2019s musical partnership with Swedish ensemble Duo Langborn\/Wendel, which developed during tours of Australia and Sweden.<\/p>\n<p>Recorded at Atlantis Studios, Stockholm, (ABBA\u2019s favourite studio), the album explores the collaboration\u2019s rare instrumentation of voice\/violin, baroque and modern violin, viola da gamba, cimbalom, and lute\/guitar. The range of available tone colours is truly unique. This is believed to be the first Australian recording featuring the viola da gamba, lute, and cimbalom. The concert cimbalom is similar to hammer dulcimer but with damping pedals like a piano.<\/p>\n<p>With an album booklet in both Swedish and English, the track list features moving arrangements of two of Sweden\u2019s most famous folk songs, one of which was taken up as the tune for the Swedish national anthem, an orchestral suite by Marin Marais, new works by Jenny Eriksson and Olof Wendel, Tommie Andersson\u2019s arrangement of a Pavane by Swedish<br \/>\njazz greats e.s.t., as well as a violin sonata by the Baroque era \u2018Father of Swedish Music\u2019, Johan Helmich Roman. The album draws on the diverse musical backgrounds of the musicians, including extensive experience in folk and traditional repertoire alongside early music.<\/p>\n<p><em>Nordic Moods &amp; Baroque
