Deborah Voigt has the kind of talent that can take from ‘the country bumpkin sharpshooter’ Annie Oakley to singing Brunhilde with a stop off at bel canto<\/em> on the way. And she’s coming to Sydney!<\/p>\n

Deborah Voigt will give two concerts in Sydney at the Sydney Opera House with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Andrew Davis. Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Lyric Opera of Chicago and Conductor Laureate of the BBC Symphony.<\/p>\n

Deborah Voigt began her singing career as a chorister and only turned to classical music\u00a0in her twenties.\u00a0She began to\u00a0enter vocal competitions just to pay her credit card bills …and the rest, as they say, is history.<\/p>\n

Today she reigns as one of the world’s\u00a0most\u00a0powerful dramatic sopranos with roles that have included Salome, Isolde, Tosca and Aida. She has reached audiences beyond the opera theatre with her appearances in the Met Opera HD cinema productions. Prior to her arrival in Sydney, Deborah Voigt will have performed Die Walk\u00fcre, Siegfried<\/em>\u00a0 <\/em>and G\u00f6tterd\u00e4mmerung<\/em> at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.<\/p>\n

Sir Andrew Davis graduated from the Royal College of Music and King’s College Cambridge. After appointments at the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, he was appointed music director of Glyndebourne and after that, of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. In his current role as music director and principal conductor of the Chicago Lyric Opera, he conducted his first ‘Ring’ cycle there in 2005.<\/p>\n
