Joan Sutherland My Favourites Released on Decca Eloquence
To mark the tenth death anniversary of the legendary dramatic coloratura soprano, Dame Joan Sutherland, Decca Eloquence has released an album Joan Sutherland My Favourites, comprising Dame Joan’s favourite moments in opera and song accompanied by liner notes she wrote herself, including her recipe for Christmas pudding.
The selections range from Mozart, through the great bel canto repertoire, to several items of ‘light’ music: ‘Trifles, perhaps, but I enjoyed singing them’. The album is a unique journey through Dame Joan’s life and career, enhanced by several tributes from her colleagues, previously unpublished photographs and rarely seen costume designs for ‘La Stupenda’ in many of her signature roles.
Published in association with the Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Foundation, the tracks include O zittre nicht from Mozart’s The Magic Flyte, Mira, O Norma – Si, fino all’ore estreme compagna tua m’avrai from Norma and Ah! non giunge from La Sonnambula by Bellini, Arditi’s Il bacio, Hahn’s Si mes vers avaient des ailes, the Andante from Gliere’s Concerto for Coloratura and Orchestra and Noel Coward’s Countess Mitzi
