‘Joyeux Noel’ with The 7 Sopranos
The 7 Sopranos celebrate Christmas in song this festive season with their ‘Joyeux Noel’ Christmas Concert at the Art Gallery of NSW. They will perform seasonal and other favourites, surrounded by one of the finest collections of 19th Century Art in the country. The septet of female voices led by Tarita Botsman-Carbo comprises Deborah Rogers, Stephanie Acraman, Keara Donohoe, Katie Stenzel, Michaela Leisk, and Naomi Johns. The Australian conductor Simon Kenway performs alongside them at the piano.
The concert is supplemented with a private viewing of the Francis Bacon (1909 -1992) exhibition and a welcome glass of champagne. After the concert, there’s the opportunity to mix and mingle with The 7 Sopranos over a 2 course dinner and complimentary glass of bubbles at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth.
This is the first major exhibition in Australia of works by the Irish born British painter, considered a master of post-war British art. The collection contains over 50 paintings – many of them monumental in size – as well as archival material from his studio, films and photographs, covering every decade of his career, from the pensive and shocking works of the 1940s to the exuberantly coloured and visceral large paintings of the 1970s and 80s.
The 7 Sopranos have compiled a programme that appeals to all ages. Its highlights include Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise, Gruber’s Silent Night and the traditional O Danny Boy.
