Lisa Gasteen AO on ‘Preparing for Wagner’
The Wagner Society of New South Wales presents Lisa Gasteen AO, delivering her perspectives on Preparing Major Wagner Roles. Lisa Gasteen rose to world fame as a dramataic soprano after becoming the first and only Australian to win the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition.
She has sung in most of the major opera houses in the UK, Italy and Germany, and has performed in Vienna, Paris, at the NY Metropolitan Opera and at Covent Garden.
Her roles include the major Verdi roles and those of Strauss and Wagner, such as Aida, La Forza del Destino, Un Ballo in Maschera, Don Carlo, Othello,Tosca, Ariadne auf Naxos, Elektra, Salome, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Lohengrin, Tannhäuser, Der Fliegende Holländer, Tristan und Isolde and Der Ring des Nibelungen.
She has worked with such conductors as Simone Young, Antonio Pappano, Lorin Maazel, Sir Bernard Haitink, Sir Charles Mackerras, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Sebastian Weigle, Donald Runnicles, Franz Welser Moest, James Levine, Zubin Mehta, Christof von Dohnanyi and Valery Gergiev.
Lisa Gasteen holds the position of Professor of Opera at the Queensland Conservatorium where she teaches and mentors young Australian singers.
Lisa Gasteen’s 2 pm talk is preceeded at 12 middy by a DVD of the Die Meistersinger Act 3, Glyndebourne.
