Netrebko Releases Birthday Album On Deutsche Grammophon
To celebrate her 50th birthday, superstar Russian soprano Anna Netrebko has released Amata Dalle Tenebre her first solo album in five years on the Deutsche Grammophon label. The title Amata dalle tenebre, means “Loved by the darkness”, and refers to the fate that awaits the operatic heroines she portrays on the album – “women for whom love is inextricably bound up with darkness, even death.”
Performing a richly varied selection of operatic arias, including six excerpts she has never recorded before, Amata Dalle Tenebre was recorded with maestro Riccardo Chailly and the Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala at Milan’s La Scala. On it, she performs heroic arias selected from Verdi’s Aida, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades, and her debut recording of Wagner’s ‘Liebestod’. There is also music by Cilea, Richard Strauss and Puccini.
