With the recent news that the 2013 Nobel prize winner for medicine Thomas Sudhof drew on his classical music training for inspiration, this feature in the New York Times describes how music promotes creative thinking and success in other aspects of like. “Music training sharpens other qualities: Collaboration. The ability to listen. A way of thinking that weaves together disparate ideas. The power to focus on the present and the future simultaneously.”

Coincidentally, we recently reported on a study undertaken by the University of Sydney and the Australia Council for the Arts that active engagement in the arts by school students has wide ranging benefits.
