Family musicals like Annie, Matilda, The Sound of Music, Wicked and Les Miserables are legendary and feature talented children who can combine music, drama and dance in a spectacular performance. Applause Musical Theatre Academy has five campuses across the North Shore and northern beaches (the newest at East Lindfield Public School opening this February), and gives keen children and teens expert training in the performing arts.
The academy is taking bookings now for its 2016 classes.
Applause aims to develop a love of music and theatre, while providing children and teens with the opportunity to gain confidence through improvising, storytelling and performing.
All teachers are accredited, experienced stage professionals and include Jonathon Holmes from Keating, Catty Hamilton (from Bring It On) and Brendan Hay (award-winning cabaret star and finalist from Australia’s Got Talent). Additionally Applause offers special performance and audition workshops/masterclasses which at times are run by star guest teachers like Hi-5’s Tim Maddren (Fiddler on the Roof with Topol and the Addams Family).
Live piano accompaniment is standard in each class, which is a major point of difference with other local classes of this kind. There are performance opportunities at community events throughout the year as well as at the annual soiree held at NORTHS where students perform excerpts from famous shows for family and friends.
