A second date in August 2017 has been announced for Opera Australia’s presentation of Verdi’s Requiem in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House.
Dubbed by the conductor Hans von Bülow as ‘Oper in Kirchengewande’ (opera in ecclesiastical dress) Verdi’s Requiem is brimming with the drama of operatic ideas. In fact, Verdi based the Lacrymosa on a duet written for the characters Carlos and Philip and discarded from Don Carlos.
Conducted by Renato Palumbo, the Australia Opera Chorus and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra perform with soloist mezzo-soprano Milijana Nikolic, tenor Diego Torre, bass Roberto Scandiuzzi with the soprano soloist yet to be announced.
