Nick Parnell: Vibes Virtuoso
Following his 2015 national tour vibraphone player, Nick Parnell, presents his concert Vibes Virtuoso in which he will perform diverse favourites from the classical repertoire like Gershwin’s Summertime, Albeniz’s Tango and Handel’s Arrival of the Queen of Sheba.
Nick Parnell is accompanied on stage by pianist and winner of the 2008 Royal Over-Seas League music competition, Michael Ierace.
Born in Orroroo in the South Australian outback, Parnell started teaching himself drums in his parents’ sheep shearing shed at the age of ten. These humble beginnings ignited a passion in Parnell that has led to appearances with the likes of David Helfgott, Simon Tedeschi and the Australian String Quartet. Parnell has also received numerous awards including a Centenary Medal and first prizes in the 2001 International Melbourne Percussion Competition, the 2002 and 2003 Australian Percussion Eisteddfods and the 1997 Adelaide Eisteddfod.
